BTVS Episode 2x04 "Inca Mummy Girl" Review
Rating: 6/10
I thought this episode was gonna be kinda boring at the start, I feel like I'm getting to a point where I need more than just a MOTW. The cultural parts of this episode also definitely did not age well. Mostly every Xander line, and also the part where they asked a random South American girl if she could translate the Incan tablet. Isn't that like asking someone from Italy to translate ancient Latin, or someone from Egypt to translate hieroglyphics. Like why would she know that?? I also hated the mummifying kisses. I guess the bodyguard part gets points because it confused me about what was going on enough to make me less bored. There were some aspects I enjoyed though. I think the most interesting part was the parallel between the Mummy and Buffy, as they were both Chosen Ones who had to sacrifice their lives. The way she spoke about her being the Chosen One made me think that she was a past Slayer, but I'm not sure if that's right since she was a sacrifice, so maybe she's just a different kind of Chosen One? It felt like she recognised what Buffy was though when she opened her drawer of slaying stuff. I suppose I feel bad for her but I also find it hard to sympathise with villains who are so easily willing to kill other people for their own life. This episode also introduced Oz, who I do know is an important character and a Willow love interest, so I got really excited when he appeared. Can't wait to see more of him. Also I recognised the bodyguard and had to google but it was Jacob's dad from Twilight.Characters:
- **Willow:** MVP because she was holding a frog plushie at one point and it made me really happy. Also her outfit for the dance was so cute. I absolutely love that Oz noticed her when she was wearing that. I felt so bad for her when she overheard that conversation between Xander and Buffy but I also feel like this is the push she needed to finally move on from Xander. She also was just really funny this episode, I feel like she also had a lot of great lines (especially the part where she said she can either wait for Xander to notice her or move on, Buffy said good for you and Willow then said "I didn't choose yet.")
- Xander: The streak of him not annoying me lasted 3 episodes gg. Eyeroll counter: 5. I don't really understand why he won't consider Willow as a love interest at all, cause they've definitely had moments before, and them being best friends is not that good of a reason. I'm fine with it though because I don't want them to date. I do kinda want Xander to realise he likes Willow right as she decides to move on though, because I am petty and think it would be funny.
Out of context notes: "EWWW MUMMY KISS" "close ur mouth bro..." "'youre not a praying mantis' crazy line" "ew mummy kiss x2" "EWWWWWWW mummy kiss x3 close up xander edition i dont need to see this"
