Review:
BTVS Episode 2x05 "Reptile Boy" Review
Rating: 6/10
I didn't love this episode, not because it was boring but because I really didn't like watching the whole frat boy situation. I feel like other villains like vampires and mummies and insect monsters are so fantastical but frat boys drugging and preying on high school girls feels a little too real so it makes me uncomfortable. I know that's obviously the point, and they did a good job at creating tension, but it's just not very enjoyable to watch. The idea of a fraternity being a cult and having this monster they worship to gain riches and power is interesting I suppose, but the actual reptile monster felt kinda unserious and random to me. I feel like a more beast-like creature would've worked better than a snake, but that's just my opinion. The other themes in this episode also just felt like stuff we've seen before, with Giles and Buffy, and Buffy and Angel. I liked the scene of Willow telling them off, but other than that I wasn't really invested in their arguments. I also hated Angel grabbing Buffy like that, like I guess he was trying to scare her to put her off but it just felt weird. All in all, this just felt like filler on filler.
Characters:
- **Willow**: MVP, because she pretty much figured out the whole frat cult thing, and also told off Giles and Angel.
Out of context notes:
"them watching indian dramas is so funny" "i would die in a situation like this bc i have no upper body strength" "ive always known frats were just cults" "whys xander dressed like a car salesman"
