Review:
BTVS Episode 1x02 "The Harvest" Review
Rating: 7/10
A lot more action in this episode ! I absolutely love how smart Buffy is, like her realising where Luke came from in the mausoleum, but then calling herself mentally challenged for not figuring it out sooner, like wow she is hard on herself. I was right about that guy being Angel, which by the way, kind of heavy handed with the symbolism of the name Angel LMAO. The vampires are actually extremely stupid because there's no reason why they couldn't have surrounded and caught Buffy but ok sure. Buffy being grounded felt so pointless ngl, like she just immediately went out the window, but I guess answers my question about her mom knowing. Xander accidentally killing Jesse was hilarious. Buffy tricking Luke about the sunrise was actually really funny too because as soon as she said it I was like "huh isn't it literally evening?? oh lol". It did make me wonder though why she didn't just use holy water though cause that seemed crazy effective. I'm rating this episode a little lower mostly because the stakes (pun intended) felt high but then the actual threat was like non-existent, like it kinda just felt like she handled it all too easily. I'm a little disappointed in how unthreatening the vampires seem right now, but I also get that the show needs to save room for the threats to get more serious. It's also a really interesting way to structure the story starting with this whole world ending thing and it getting wrapped up in 2 episodes, I'm guessing that's because it's a two-parter pilot and they just wanted to grab people with a quick self contained plot, like it kinda felt like a prologue before the real story starts. Makes me wonder where it's gonna go from here. I do actually like the established group of Buffy, Xander, Willow and Giles.Characters:
**- Buffy: ** MVP again because so far no one is as interesting as her. It is tricky having a character so much more powerful than the rest so it'll be interesting to see how they balance that.
- Giles: realised that American shows like to make characters British to make them seem distinguished and intelligent but when you're British yourself they just seem pretentious, but I don't actually dislike him. IRL people would be so sus of him hanging out with 3 teenagers all the time though...
- Xander: downgraded from neutral to slight dislike because why are you complaining about being less than a man and showing up when she told you not to, AND showing up with no weapons/supplies at all??
- Willow: hilarious for deleting Cordelia's programming
- Jesse: him becoming a vampire was very unsurprising, I knew he was too NPC. I need to know if that jumpscare sound effect when he appeared was from this show because omg I've heard that sound so many times.
