BTVS Episode 2x08 "The Dark Age" Review
Rating: 6/10
I don't know what it was with this episode, but I feel like it really disappointed me, and every character and plot point just felt more stupid than usual. This was an extremely Giles focused episode, which I was so excited for, but it didn't really live up to my expectations. Halloween really set up this dark past of Giles, and I was so excited to find out, but it just being that he summoned a demon feels kinda lame? I guess I was expecting something worse to be honest. It was very heavy on the "Giles is a real person!" but I just didn't find it that interesting. Also, he really annoyed me cause he kept making really stupid choices. Like not telling Buffy about a demon, not realising that it would've jumped onto Jenny (like shouldn't he have known that would happen??), letting Buffy go after Ethan. Buffy going to save Ethan with no backup just felt stupid in general like why do you think you can trust this already established villain?? Also it doesn't make any sense why there's a Saturday class for one (I guess two, with Xander) student and why Willow needs to be there to help, that was just obvious setup for the characters to be there but I don't know why that was even necessary, like it could've just been after school. I liked seeing Cordelia, but she also felt extra dumb in this episode, like they were trying too hard to make it funny. The actual demon was just weird, and boring to me. The parts where it was possessing Jenny just took me aback, it was kinda jarring. The best part of the episode by far was them defeating it by making it jump onto Angel, and the two demons battling it out. I hadn't really thought about what happened to the demon in Angel when he got his soul back, I didn't realise it was just lying dormant, that's actually pretty interesting. I do feel sad about Giles and Jenny because they were really cute in the start and I like her character so I hope she comes back and isn't just gone now.Characters:
- **Willow:** Probably the only character that wasn't stupid this episode. The idea of getting it to possess Angel was incredibly smart and also I liked her telling off Xander and Cordelia. I feel like Willow this season has been figuring out a lot of the solutions, and its a big upgrade to Season 1 where I feel like all she did was research pretty much.
- Giles: I get he was embarrassed about his past but it honestly wasn't serious enough to warrant keeping it secret and trying to handle it himself.
Out of context notes:
"bro shes walking so slow go around her??" "she hit him with the ragebait rizz combo" "xander cordelia crumbs" "gay ass monster"
