BTVS Episode 2x17 "Passion" Review

Rating 9/10

This episode was so stressful, I feel like they are really stepping up with Angel as a villain and it's so scary. I also feel like he is way more interesting as a villain than he was as a good guy, like Giles wasn't wrong when he said he got his whimsy back. I have to appreciate the effort and drama of taking the time to make these realistic drawings of everyone. Imagining him working on getting the shading right is kind of hilarious. I like the interactions between him and Spike, but I'm kind of sad that Spike has been doing basically nothing the past bunch of episodes. The fact that it took Buffy this long to realise he has access to her house and she should probably do something about it stresses me out. My biggest criticism of this show right now though, is too many of the characters feel very passive. No one has any sense of urgency or plan on either side, they're both just waiting around for something to happen, and by then it's usually too late. That's also why I really appreciated Jenny in this episode for actually trying to do something about Angel. I feel like everyone was a little hard on her because she didn't really do anything wrong, but I also like that she actually tried to fix things.Okay, let me address the elephant in the room. I AM SO UPSET THAT SHE DIED. I genuinely loved her character and I'm so sad about it, I had a feeling it was coming but I was still hoping she would somehow escape at the last moment. This actually feels like the worst death in the show so far. I hated how excited Giles was when he got home, like that was just painful. Angel is sick in the head for setting all that up. It makes so much sense though that Giles is the one that snapped at the end after lecturing Buffy about not giving into her passions, because I thought that warning was kinda random considering she hadn't even done anything. I love when Giles randomly has super badass moments. Buffy punching Giles literally made me gasp but that moment was so sad but sweet when she said "you can't leave me", like okay just twist the knife. Also, Willow being so excited to fill in for Jenny's class and then only getting to do it at the end because she died... These writers are sick. I need them to find the disc so she didn't just die for nothing, but I'm scared the ending means that they're never going to. I really liked the conversation between Buffy and her mom this ep, like her mom gave her a bit of a hard time at first but from her perspective it must be so hard with Buffy never telling you anything, and I would be so worried about her after meeting Angel. I still wish Buffy would just tell her. Also, I have to mention it is so funny that there were real students who wanted to use the library for once.

Out of context notes "edward was really reheating angels nachos" "did jenny just invent google translate, she needs google drive too" "if jenny dies jm gonna cry, FUCK YOUUUUUUUUUUU" "drusilla nonchalantly wheeling spike away"
