BTVS Episode 1x05 "Never Kill a Boy on the First Date" Review

Rating: 7 -> 6/10

Interesting that we got a reappearance of the main villain! It felt like the purpose of this episode though was just to hammer in the fact that Buffy really wants a normal social life but is realising she's not going to be able to. I was a little annoyed that her and Giles gave up so easily waiting that night, like personally I would've been like we are waiting until sunrise to be safe, doesn't really make sense to me how flippant they were, like oh we've waited long enough so let's just go home? I was a bit disappointed in Buffy not listening to Giles the next day but honestly I think she learnt her lesson pretty quickly and early, so I'm glad it's out of the way. It's obvious any love interest she has is gonna have to be involved in that world. The actual romance plot was pretty flat, I think Owen was more of a prop than a real character, which is fine. I actually really expected him to die, but when he got his head smacked I was like there's no way he died that suddenly, so I was kinda right. By the end I was scared that Owen was gonna be a vampire or something, cause Buffy stopping the prophecy felt way too easy/anticlimactic. I was so sure that something went wrong that they didn't know about. However, I didn't expect the Anointed One to be the kid so that's actually pretty cool, and actually has some dark implications for the future. Probably the best part of the ep for me, cause I found the scenes with Owen pretty boring.

Characters:

- **Giles: ** MVP. Thank you for trusting your gut and checking out the funeral home. Double thank you for closing the oven door on that guy. I actually do really like Giles, he is a sweet guy. Sorry for thinking you were creepy...

- Xander: Eyeroll counter: 3. Realised that he lowkey reminds me of Jim Carrey.

Out of context notes:

"willow just said 'ive clocked him' omg" "heated rivalry ep 4 club scene" "how it feels taking public transport"
